How We Compare VPNs: Sources, Criteria and Commissions

This page explains how the comparisons and recommendations on Best VPN India are made. It applies to every guide on the site. Read it together with our editorial policy, how we use AI and affiliate disclosure.

Where the facts come from

We work from public sources: the provider’s own pages (pricing, help centre, server list, terms of service), published fee schedules, official Indian sources where a guide covers Indian rules (for example CERT-In), and audit statements that a provider publishes itself. A fact that depends on a date, such as a price, a server count or a plan limit, carries the date we read it (for example “checked on 2 November 2026”) or is left out.

What we compare

For each VPN we look at the same points, as far as the provider publishes them:

  • which plans exist, what is free and what the limits are
  • how many devices one account covers
  • the money-back period
  • the no-logs policy and whether the provider publishes an independent audit
  • server locations, and whether servers in India are physical or virtual
  • payment methods offered to customers in India
  • what the provider’s terms say about use in India and about streaming services

When a point is not published, we say so instead of guessing.

What we do not do

  • We do not run our own speed, streaming or reliability tests, and we do not claim hands-on results. When a page mentions speed, it quotes a published source or says that we did not measure it.
  • We do not open accounts or move money for our guides.
  • We do not accept payment for positive coverage or for a place in a list.

How commissions work

Some links are affiliate links and are marked “Ad”. If you buy through one, the provider pays us a commission and your price stays the same. At the time of writing we hold affiliate links for NordVPN, Proton VPN, ExpressVPN, PureVPN, Bitdefender, NordPass, RoboForm and HideMy.Name. For services such as hide.me, Windscribe and TunnelBear in the free VPN comparison we have no affiliate link and earn nothing.

Because the services we link to pay us, a recommendation such as “our pick” comes from a publisher that earns when you buy. Check it against the provider’s own page before you decide.
